The role of stress

When we are stressed we crave food that is higher in fat and sugar because our bodies require more energy to carry out basic functions. This is why we reach for the biscuits!


Food can be seen as a treat, so we associate food with positive feelings. This makes sense if when you need an emotional connection or are feeling stressed you reach for the 'comfort food'. In reality the food doesn't actually provide the emotion, so we crave more. This can lead to feelings of guilt which keep us trapped in that negative cycle.


How hypnotherapy works for weight loss

In sessions we work on reducing general anxiety, which helps with the body's response to food. When we are relaxed we produce less of the stress hormone cortisol, which means we have much more control over cravings. Studies show that less cortisol means we even store less fat.
